Pigeons Bathing

All pigeons love to bathe.

My birds are provided with a bath once a week in the Winter (no matter what the weather) most of the pigeons are in or on the side of the bath before it has finished filling. During the Winter I only leave the bath in the flight for 15-20 minutes and then empty it. In Summer they get abath 3-4 times a week, which is left from 7.00a.m. to 10.30a.m. giivng the hens a chance to bathe when they leave the nest about 10.00a.m.

The water will get dirty very quickly with a white film covering the surface, this is tiny dust particles which come from the birds skin and feathers. The pigeons should not drink from this water and should not, providing they have fresh drinkingwater every day.

Pigeons, as with all birds, will not bathe if they are not well so if regular baths are provided you should get an early indication that something is wrong.

Bathing may or may not help with mites but pigeons definitely love having a bath.
